Seventeen hundred years ago, an unknown monk or scribe copied a gospel detailing the last three days of Jesus' life from the perspective of Judas Iscariot. The "Gospel of Judas" faded from view and the codex containing its only known surviving copy was hidden in a cave in the Egyptian desert. This title is the English translation of the work.

The Book of the Dead
By: Budge, E. A. Wallis
Published by: The Floating Press
This is Egyptologist E. A. Wallis Budge's thesis on and interpretation of the 'The Book of the Dead', which is the common name for the ancient Egyptian funerary text known as 'The Book of Coming '[or 'Going']' Forth By Day'. The book of the dead was a description of the ancient Egyptian conception of the afterlife and a collection of hymns, spells, and instructions to allow the deceased to pass through obstacles in the afterlife. The book of the dead was most commonly written on a papyrus scroll and placed in the coffin or burial chamber of the deceased. The name "Book of the Dead" was the invention of the German Egyptologist Karl Richard Lepsius, who published a selection of the texts in 1842. When it was first discovered, the book of the dead was thought to be an ancient Egyptian Bible. But unlike the Bible, The Book of the Dead does not set forth religious tenets and was not considered by the ancient Egyptians to be the product of divine revelation, which allowed the content of the book of the dead to change over time. Die Welt Der Götterbilder
By: Groneberg, Brigitte (ed.); Spieckermann, Hermann (ed.)
Published by: Walter de Gruyter
Divine images create their own world of theological reflection and religious practice. Pictorial representations have to reduce complexity, yet at the same time they create their own complexity. The present volume examines this phenomenon with papers on fundamental issues and presentations of material from the Ancient Orient, Greece and the Hellenic world. Papers on the contact between Christianity and Islam in the matter of the veneration of images make clear what compensation strategies are developed when pictorial representations are subject to theological censure. The volume contains eighteen contributions from internationally renowned researchers writing in German and English.

The book explores the conceptual and formal characteristics of texts from different contexts and epochs from the 3rd millennium until the 5th century AD, together with the evolution of historical awareness and interest in historiography.
