Collecting Spatial Data
By: Muller, Werner G.
Published by: Springer
The book is concerned with the statistical theory for locating spatial sensors. It bridges the gap between spatial statistics and optimum design theory. After introductions to those two fields the topics of exploratory designs and designs for spatial trend and variogram estimation are treated. Special attention is devoted to describing new methodologies to cope with the problem of correlated observations. A great number of relevant references are collected and put into a common perspective. The theoretical investigations are accompanied by a practical example, the redesign of an Upper-Austrian air pollution monitoring network. A reader should be able to find respective theory and recommendations on how to efficiently plan a specific purpose spatial monitoring network. The third edition takes into account the rapid development in the area of spatial statistics by including new relevant research and references. The revised edition contains additional material on design for detecting spatial dependence and for estimating parametrized covariance functions.

Complex Dynamics
By: Ivancevic, Vladimir G.; Ivancevic, Tijana T.
Published by: Springer
Complex Dynamics: Advanced System Dynamics in Complex Variables is a graduate-level monographic textbook. It is designed as a comprehensive introduction into methods and techniques of modern complex-valued nonlinear dynamics with its various physical and non-physical applications. This book is a complex-valued continuation of our previous two monographs, Geometrical Dynamics of Complex Systems and High-Dimensional Chaotic and Attractor Systems, Volumes 31 and 32 in the Springer book series Intelligent Systems, Control and Automation: Science and Engineering, where we had developed the most powerful mathematical machinery to deal with high-dimensional nonlinear, attractor and chaotic real-valued dynamics. The present monograph is devoted to understanding, prediction and control of both low- and high-dimensional, as well as both continuous- and discrete-time, nonlinear systems dynamics in complex variables. Its objective is to provide a serious reader with a serious scientific tool that will enable him/her to actually perform a competitive research in modern complex-valued nonlinear dynamics. This book has seven Chapters. The first, introductory Chapter explains ???in plain English??? the objective of the book and provides the preliminaries in complex numbers and variables; it also gives a soft introduction to quantum dynamics. The second Chapter develops low-dimensional dynamics in the complex plane, theoretical and computational, continuous- and discrete-time. The third Chapter presents a modern introduction to quantum dynamics, mainly following Dirac's notation. The fourth Chapter develops geometrical machinery of complex manifolds, essential for the further text. The fifthChapter develops high-dimensional complex continuous dynamics, which takes place on complex manifolds. The sixth Chapter develops the formalism of complex path integrals, which extends the continuous dynamics to the general high-dimensional dynamics, which can be both discrete and stochastic.

Complex Numbers in n Dimensions
By: Olariu, S.
Published by: North Holland
Two distinct systems of hypercomplex numbers in n dimensions are introduced in this book, for which the multiplication is associative and commutative, and which are rich enough in properties such that exponential and trigonometric forms exist and the concepts of analytic n-complex function, contour integration and residue can be defined. The first type of hypercomplex numbers, called polar hypercomplex numbers, is characterized by the presence in an even number of dimensions greater or equal to 4 of two polar axes, and by the presence in an odd number of dimensions of one polar axis. The other type of hypercomplex numbers exists as a distinct entity only when the number of dimensions n of the space is even, and since the position of a point is specified with the aid of n/2-1 planar angles, these numbers have been called planar hypercomplex numbers. The development of the concept of analytic functions of hypercomplex variables was rendered possible by the existence of an exponential form of the n-complex numbers. Azimuthal angles, which are cyclic variables, appear in these forms at the exponent, and lead to the concept of n-dimensional hypercomplex residue. Expressions are given for the elementary functions of n-complex variable. In particular, the exponential function of an n-complex number is expanded in terms of functions called in this book n-dimensional cosexponential functions. of the polar and respectively planar type, which are generalizations to n dimensions of the sine, cosine and exponential functions. In the case of polar complex numbers, a polynomial can be written as a product of linear or quadratic factors, although it is interesting that several factorizations are in general possible. In the case of planar hypercomplex numbers, a polynomial can always be written as a product of linear factors, although, again, several factorizations are in general possible. The book presents a detailed analysis of the hypercomplex numbers in 2, 3 and 4 dimensions, th
